Hair Thinning, Loss & Restoration

Studies show that over 30 million woman in the country are experiencing hair loss, with 70% of that 30 million being African American Women. It is normal to lose between 50-100 his a day, this is part of the hair renewal process. There are many reasons why people experience hairless including, medication, radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal and nutritional factors, thyroid disease, generalized and local skin disease and stress. many of these cases are temporary and few are permanent.

Hormonal changes have the biggest impact on hair and hairless. Hormonal hairless affects both men and women, and the culprit of this is caused by DHT- Dihydrotestosterone. It works similarly to a lock and key.

When the hair follicles have a greater number of Androgren receptors (locks) the DHT(key) can easily bind to these additional receptors.

Medications also has a great impact on hair thinning and loss. Some examples include High Blood Pressure, Gout, Arthritis, Depression and heart problems. Diet and nutrition plays a major part as well, having a decrease in proteins can drastically effect the strength of the hair as a compensatory mechanism the body will shift growing hair into the resting phase as a way to save protein.

Also poor hair styling choices present another factor to hair loss and thinning. Styles that cause too much tension at the roots (traction alopecia) as well as the physical pulling out of hair (trichotillomania) are the causes of this. Braids and weaving styles that are attached too tightly place a constant strain on the hair follicles and weaken it.

Thankfully you do not have to suffer in silence.

We are now offering customized services and treatments to assist you with the issue.

Our Hair loss Practitioner is also a NJ Registered Nurse, who currently practices in the Emergency Department. The combination of both Practices leads to a more comprehensive Holistic approach to Hair Restoration. Our belief is that in order to effectively combat hair thinning and loss, modalities must include both external and internal treatments. All of our treatment modalities begin with a thorough assessment of your general health and hair care practices and your scalp. When was the last time you looked at your scalp and follicles? Most responses would be, “NEVER!” During the consultation you will receive a Dermascope Scalp Analysis, which gives us the ability to visualize the hair from the root. From there we will create a customized treatment plan to address those specific needs.
